'Vitamin Sea' is an interactive and memorable celebration of the urban art scene and unique project connecting artists all over the globe.
In February 2020, Paxton Glew began sending out ‘beach hut kits’ to a selection of the artists they represent. The concept was to re-create an alternative 1:16 replica of the iconic Brighton & Hove beach huts, painted by over 30+ contemporary street, urban and fine artists from the across UK and Italy.
As lockdown descended, these beach huts took on a new meaning, embodying escapism, hope and a welcome distraction for the artists amidst the uncertainty of the times.
Many of the artists have worked in their homes rather than their usual studio spaces, making these works unusual in that they reflect these historic times and the artists lives themselves.
The exhibition continues on the success of the 'Urban Miniatures' exhibition, where over 40 prominent artists in the urban contemporary art scene created a subversive technicolour model village, complete with working oo gauge Hornby train set. 'Vitamin Sea' develops this idea yet this time portrays an alternative replica of the iconic Hove promenade beach huts at 1:16 scale.
‘Vitamin Sea’ aims to be an uplifting exhibition which reflects Brighton's quintessential seaside vibe and spreads colour and hope in the current climate. In keeping with the holiday theme, the show also offers artist’s original postcards, from some of the worlds most influential urban artists.
The online show offers original beach huts, one off postcards and prints by each of the contributing artists, available to buy online.
Additionally the specially designed Brighton Beach hut is available to purchase as a kit, so that everyone can get involved.
